In 1957 Philmont Scout Ranch introduced one of the most widely recognized symbols in the Scout memorabilia hobby - the Arrowhead. As the story goes, the idea for the patch dates back to 1956. A staff member noticed a rock outcropping on the north side of Tooth ridge. It was shaped like an arrowhead. He suggested that Philmont award a patch of the shape to crews who completed their trek.
