For over fifty year my father continuously wrote and collected epigrams and essays which seemed to him to contain good rules for a successful and useful life. These epigrams were so much a part of him that he carried a complete typewritten list of them in his pocket always.

As a tribute to him I am pleased to permit the Philmont Scout Ranch to re-publish this edition so that even more people can enjoy it. I am sure it was his hope that these epigrams would be of as much benefit to others as they were to him.
